We are afraid of the wrong things!

"We are afraid of the wrong things"<------ This makes me think of how we can be afraid of the wrong things without realising it. It is a fact, there is no recipe for life, but there are millions of rules and regulations that guide us in order to survive in the twisted world we are living in.

The two challenges that we as the youth of today are facing, is the increasing number of unwanted pregnancy and the spread of HIV/AIDS. But what I have found quite shocking is how some people (women in particular) will do anything to prevent pregnancy by using, pills, patches or injections, but not think about condoms as one of the options to prevent pregnancy.

Through conversations with peers, I found that some people are more afraid of being pregnant more than contracting STI's, because they would rather use other forms of contraception to prevent pregnancy rather than using a condom, that prevents both unwanted pregnancies and STI's. Making me think that one would rather contract an STI than fall pregnant.

Not to say unwanted pregnancies are less important than contacting STI's, but why is it that some people find it so hard to use a condom when using other forms of contraception? I mean, they don’t prevent a person from contracting diseases but condoms do. So why not be afraid of both, unwanted pregnancies and STI’s rather than choosing one over the other?
